Wolf Alice have announced that their long-awaited new album, Blue Weekend, will be released on 11 June.

Having first teased their comeback last week, the band kept fans eagerly waiting an announcement with hints on social media. Their newest single, ‘The Last Man on Earth’ was finally unveiled on Wednesday, on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show, as ‘Hottest Record in The World’.

The track was wildly popular with fans, allowing excitement for their upcoming album to soar. Produced by Markus Dravs, who has worked with the likes of Arcade Fire and Florence and The Machine, ‘The Last Man on Earth’ showcases front woman Ellie Roswell’s immense songwriting and vocal abilities perfectly.

“It’s about the arrogance of humans. I’d just read Kurt Vonnegut’s Cat’s Cradle and I had written the line, ‘Peculiar travel suggestions are dancing lessons from god’ in my notes. But then I thought: ‘Uh, your peculiar travel suggestion isn’t a dancing lesson from god, it’s just a travel suggestion. Why does everything need to mean something more?’.”

The track is accompanied by a fitting black and white video featuring Roswell in the spotlight. Directed by Jordan Hemingway, the video is seen to mark a new era for the foursome, leaving fans wondering what’s to come next.

Blue Weekend marks a third album for the band, following second album Visions Of A Life in 2017, and debut album My Love Is Cool’ back in 2015. Following up Visions Of A Life may seem like a daunting task for some, with the album bagging the group The Mercury Prize in 2018, a grammy nomination, and a spot on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury, however it appears Wolf Alice are up to the job.

Blue Weekend is set to be released 11 June 2021, on Dirty Hit. The album can be pre-ordered now, in all formats including CD, vinyl, and cassette.
