The multi-award winning musical Wicked is set for its third UK and Ireland tour, starting from December next year and running through until January 2025.
The show, which is also currently running in the West End, will play in ten cities, beginning in Edinburgh in December 2023, and stopping in Bristol, Birmingham, Bradford, Southampton, Liverpool, Dublin, Sunderland and Cardiff. It finishes in Manchester in 2025.
Michael McCabe, executive producer (UK and Ireland) of Wicked, said: “We’re delighted to be embarking on this third tour of the UK and Ireland and taking Wicked back to 10 incredible theatres in England, Scotland, Wales and the Republic of Ireland where sold-out audiences previously greeted us so ecstatically.”
Based on Gregory Maguire’s novel, Wicked tells the backstory of the witches from L. Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz, from being unlikely university friends, to becoming Glinda The Good and The Wicked Witch of The West as seen in Baum’s original novel.
The musical features a score by Stephen Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman, with direction by Joe Mantello and choreography by Wayne Cilento.
The latest UK tour will feature a cast and crew of over 82 people, with 20 additional local employees in each city. Casting for the tour has yet to be announced.
2023 marks the 20th anniversary year for the Broadway production, whilst the West End production is currently in its 17th year, and has been seen by 11 million people since its opening.
Tour dates and venues can be found on the Wicked website.
