Netflix recently dropped its creepy trailer for upcoming horror film Things Heard and Seen. The gothic tale stars Amanda Seyfried (Mamma Mia!) and James Norton (Grantchester).

Things Heard And Seen is an adaptation of Elizabeth Brundage’s novel All Things Cease to Appear. Seyfried portrays a young artist named Catherine, while Norton takes on the role of her husband George. As the trailer reveals, the story begins with the two of them moving house. While it starts calmly, it soon escalates as Catherine begins to discover that both her home and her husband are hiding haunting secrets. She searches through the house and town to uncover the questionable history, much to the chagrin of those around her.

Netflix’s official short synopsis of the film reads: “A Manhattan couple moves to a historic hamlet in the Hudson Valley and come to discover that their marriage has a sinister darkness, one that rivals their new home’s history.”

Joining Seyfried and Norton on screen are Natalia Dyer (Stranger Things), Rhea Seehorn (Better Call Saul), Alex Neustaedter (Colony), Jack Gore (The Kids are Alright), Karen Allen (Raiders of the Lost Ark) and F. Murray Abraham (Amadeus).

Shari Springer Berman and Robert Pulcini worked together to write and direct the film. This will be their first horror creation after directing a variety of popular dramas and comedies including American Splendor and The Nanny Diaries. When asked about the film for Entertainment Weekly, Berman said: “It’s not a horror. It has ghosts and it has murder, but it also has real emotional drama.” Pulcini added: “I find it more of a literary ghost story, in the tradition of Turn of the Screw, and things like that. There’s a gothic kind of quality to it. So I think it’s more of a supernatural thriller if you’re going to give it a genre.”

Things Heard and Seen is set to premiere on Netflix on 29 April, 2021.
