Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt star in a super-powered sci-fi film coming to Netflix next month.
In a concept similar to the 2011 film Limitless, the premise of action thriller Project Power hinges upon a drug that grants its user a random superpower for five minutes.
Foxx, who previously played supervillain Electro in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, will now take the lead as a hero in this summer’s superhero film. In Project Power, Foxx is a former soldier on a journey to rescue his kidnapped daughter from people pushing the power drug. He teams up with Art (Levitt), a local cop, and Robin (Dominique Fishback), a teenage drug dealer, to get his daughter back and take down the manufacturers of the drug. The trio decides to take the pill themselves to take down the criminals. The catch? “You never know what power is until you try it,” Levitt explains in the trailer.
The duo directing the film is Ariel Schulman and Henry Joost. They have previously co-directed films such as Nerve, Viral and Paranormal Activity 3, but this will be their most high-profile project to date. Eric Newman and Bryan Unkeless are producing the film, and rising screenwriter Mattson Tomlin is behind the script. He wrote the script of upcoming film The Batman.
Jamie Foxx is best known for his roles in Django Unchained and Ray, and he will star in the future comic-book reboot of Spawn. Joseph Gordon Levitt has starred in several sci-fi films including Looper and Inception. Levitt has never been a superhero or villain, but he did feature as a cop in a previous superhero film, The Dark Knight Rises. The young actress, Dominique Fishback, is best known for her roles in Show Me a Hero and The Deuce.
The action-packed thriller also features rapper Machine Gun Kelly, Rodrigo Santoro, Courtney B. Vance, Amy Landecker and Allen Maldonado. The film arrives on the streaming service on 14 August.
