Track Review: Time & Space // Calais

Fresh out of the indie rock scene of Australia is the band, Calais. This five-piece provide a unique sound that’s both hard hitting in terms of bass and the drive of the strong pounding percussion. Their sound can be said to be similar to  that of The 1975 melodically with their accustomed electronic touch, yet with influence from The Neighbourhood otherwise.

The track itself starts off with an instantaneous rush of electric guitars and bass built upon the strength of the drums that is impressively in sync with the strong vocals of the band. The breakup theme is evident throughout the piece through its somewhat weightless vibe, yet strong lyrics and melody. Despite this, the instrumental, (predominantly the bass line) creates a strong impact which provides a desire to foot tap in time that’s hard to restrain from. The electronic touch the band adds to this song in particular within the chorus is key for noticing the unique feel of both track and band.  The music video for this track helps capture this movement and weightless atmospheric sense being portrayed in the piece.

Be sure to check out their Debut EP Silhouette set for launch on the 17th April.
