Determined to shake off the winter blues, Red Rum Club returns with upbeat new single ‘The River’, which chronicles the good and bad of growing up. With their trademark upbeat instrumentals and smooth vocals, the band are sticking to what they know which – thankfully – works every time.
The track opens up at “the corner shop meeting place”, an intimate mingling of sweet vocals strumming guitar. This is a Red Rum Club track, though, so the quiet doesn’t last long as listeners are greeted by the signature trumpets, bass, drums which are characteristic of the Liverpool outfit.
Speaking to Live4ever about the track, lead singer Fran Doran said “the song is reminiscent of summer days of blue skies and brown water” He continued, “the song emulates those summer nights by starting quiet and tranquil only to quickly grow into a rowdy, energetic track with a real feel of teen angst and explosive anticipation”
The sense of fun in the track is replicated in the video, as the band frolic in a cold-looking river and the viewer gets a look at the band on stage, commanding attention with a stage presence that is captivating as their tracks. As the nights get colder and the news gets a bit bleaker, tracks like this are just the mood booster we need.
