Regressive Left

Regressive Left are one of a slew of new bands and musical projects that have defied the odds over the course of the pandemic. Over the past 12 months, they have been refining their sound and building on their well-deserved hype, the end product being their latest single ‘Take The Hit.’ Several different layers of sound emerge throughout this tightly-packed, relatively short track. An infectious and pacy beat—guided by cheeky electronic sounds inspired by an eclectic pallet of dance music—keeps the track motoring along at an enjoyable speed.

Take a closer listen at the lyrics and the band’s political mantra is clear to see. While the message never rises above the instrumentation—and nor should it—the clear and evocative purpose of the release is not hard to find. Their message isn’t unique, but it’s presentation feels inspired. ‘Take The Hit’ is a refreshing and brisk look at ideology and greed coated in a toe-tapping, groovy sound. The range and quality of Regressive Left comes across in full, with a single that points towards great things for a group who have made the most of a difficult year.
