Track Review: Surrealist Dinner Party // Maddy Storm

In her first release since February’s ‘Dizzying Heights’, Maddy Storm returns in an electric blur with ’Surrealist Dinner Party’.

Setting the track in a Salvador Dalí inspired fantasy, Storm depicts a ball where guests dress according to their dreams. Exploring themes of alcohol and reliance on others, ‘Surrealist Dinner Party’ is a self-confessed “over-the-top” kaleidoscope of sounds. The refreshing blend of electric sounds and Storm’s striking vocals provides an almost psychedelic listening experience.

Despite the heavy electropop vibe, 24-year-old Storm independently produced many of ‘Surrealist Dinner Party’s notes using solely her own voice. She also self-compiled the entire track within the four walls of her own bedroom. This, alongside her instructions via Instagram to “turn off your lights and give it a spin”, only adds to the track’s surreality.

From a small-town singer to a BBC Introducing and Spotify’s ‘Fresh Finds’ name, Maddy Storm’s career is testament to her industrialised approach to contemporary electropop. For Storm, ‘Surrealist Dinner Party’ can only be a mechanism for future success.
