Track Review: Smoke In My Eyes // Josh Flowers & The Wild

Upcoming Londoners Josh Flowers & The Wild revealed their new single ‘Smoke In My Eyes’ following positive reviews of predecessors ‘I’m Gone’ and ‘Jacques Cousteau’. Modern ambassadors of Blues rock, much like successful two-piece The Black Keys, the group’s sound is nothing short of infectious – stripped-back, yet polished.

‘Smoke In My Eyes’ is built on a fun, foot-stomping riff from fuzzy guitar. Raspy lead vocals hark back to good old rock ‘n’ roll, creating a glorious nostalgia which is delightful to see here in 2015.  Although lyrically simple, wisely done so as to not distract from the light-hearted mood of the song, the repetition of “nothing to do with you” truly incorporates the “Wild” aspect of their name – fiercely independent and without a care in the world.

The potential of such classic influences creates excitement for an eventual debut album. We can’t wait to see what’s on their horizon.
