Cambridge indie-rockers Kermode Spirit formed in 2014. Influenced by Lower Than Atlantis, Bombay Bicycle Club, and The Black Keys, they increased their reputation through reaching the finals of the 2015 Cambridge Band Competition and playing the O2 Islington Academy. They released their debut EP House Party last September, a fun slice of indie pop recalling the youthful vibrancy of the Arctic Monkeys. The band released a new track ‘Sleep’ last night on Soundcloud.

‘Sleep’ opens with a rocky intro, John Chisham’s heartwarming vocals drawing the listener in. During the chorus of “Where will you sleep tonight”, he plays around with the melody, offering something distinctive and fresh. The duel guitars of Chisham and Alastair McNamara complement the vocals perfectly with some captivating licks.

Although House Party showed a band who wore their influences on their sleeve, ‘Sleep’ sees Kermode Spirit finding their own sound, leading to a rewarding and relaxing listen. If you’re into The Arctic Monkeys and Youth Club, then Kermode Spirit will be a welcome addition to your collection.
