Rejjie Snow returns with a new track ‘Rio de Janeiro’ ahead of his third album Peace 2 Da World, dropping on 25 October 2024. In his new single, Rejjie offers us a glimpse at the direction in which his album is heading. Collaborating with long-time producer, Rahki, Rejjie fuses elements of samba, lofi, and hip-hop to create the perfect single for reminiscing about summer as we move into the autumn months.

The track begins with a nostalgic feel as a low pass filter muffles the high-end frequencies creating an old, almost vintage sound. As Rejjie’s croaky Irish voice hums through the speaker, the latest single sounds like the kind of mellow tune you might hear in the lobby of a tropical hotel. But the track doesn’t linger in this hazy atmosphere for long—it soon bursts into life with lush background vocals, whose dreamy, repetitive lulls pull the listener deeper into its soothing rhythm.

Much like Rejjie’s earlier work, the classic lofi vibe comes through strongly in the drums. Yet, it is clear that Rejjie’s time spent in Brazil has given his newest song a character of its own. The added warmth that’s undeniably Brazilian is an aspect to this track which feels fresh for Rejjie and his work. This sanguine state of Rejjie’s newest single is a welcomed change to his more capricious work which first gained him notoriety.

The song itself is an ode to Rio and an anonymous lover. Though Rejjie leaves ambiguity as to what is for Rio and what is for the lover, this is part of the track’s beauty: his rhythm and rhyme invite the listener to interpret the romance and joy in their own way.

With ‘Rio de Janeiro’, Rejjie Snow has created a lush escape to the vibrant streets of Brazil, where every beat feels like a warm breeze and every note offers a brief moment of pure serenity.
