Disclosure – after much anticipation – have finally unveiled their long-awaited collaboration with pop singer Lorde. The track, entitled ‘Magnets’ is their latest offering from their sophomore album Caracal – the exciting follow-up to Disclosure’s number-one debut album, Settle, released back in 2013. The album features artists Sam Smith, Miguel and The Weeknd, yet it seems the Lorde collaboration is arguably the biggest of the lot.

It comes as the first we’ve heard from Lorde since her hit single ‘Yellow Flicker Beat’ that was written for ‘The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1’ soundtrack in 2014 and the track is not the first collaboration between the ‘Royals’ singer and Disclosure either. The electronic duo – comprised of brothers Howard and Guy Lawrence – performed at the BRIT Awards last year with Lorde and dance group AlunaGeorge, which was a performance that had critics raving.

Just seconds into ‘Magnets’, it is clear that the track is going to be memorable. The track suggests the idea of pursuing something that is potentially forbidden and being wrapped up in the frame of mind that there is no turning back when this is pursued. “Let’s embrace the point of no return” echoes Lorde – a phrase that is not only powerful, but effective sonically when repeated over and over.

The track retains the essence of the distinct ‘Disclosure sound’, yet is backed with a dark hip-hop beat. Heavy synths and hi-hats fill in the gaps, layered with Lorde’s hypnotising vocals. Despite sounding like the perfect dancefloor filler, the track is very much radio-friendly and can be expected to command the airwaves. ‘Magnets’ is a delight to the ears and truly shows exactly what Disclosure can do in terms of production – and they certainly do not disappoint.

‘Magnets’ is taken from ‘Caracal’, which is out now and available to purchase here.
