After announcing last week that their third album, From 2 to 3, will be released March next year, indie-pop favourites Peach Pit have followed the first single, ‘Up Granville’, with ‘Look Out!’ This track continues the soft, chilled-out sound that the band is known for, with a more acoustic twist.

Peach Pit’s music melds melancholia and introspection. Each track’s storyline evokes a strong sense of place and time, making the songs something to really get lost in; ‘Look Out!’ is no exception, with romantic angst and yearning once again taking centre stage. The band’s ability to catapult you back to thoughts of your most recent love and all the messy, complex emotions that that brings up is admirable, even if it might leave you heartbroken all over again.

The band’s use of percussion is particularly notable, with lap steel and shakers incorporated into the track. Whilst maintaining their signature style, the band has demonstrated that they’re still adaptable, adding unexpected twists within that metric and keeping the Peach Pit sound fresh.

Frontman Neil Smith has said that the new album was “written late at night, alone in a small apartment”, something which truly translates into the singles released thus far. The mellow, understated sound of ‘Look Out!’ feels like it was made to be listened to as you stare up at your ceiling in the early hours, with soft guitar and Smith’s distinctive voice creating a beautiful ambiance evoking summer evenings and heartache.

After months of lockdowns, restrictions and a deplorable lack of live music, Peach Pit has stressed their excitement to be playing live again. The band will once more be able to give fans the opportunity to languish in their romantic turmoils, with their 2022 From 2 to 3 tour booked and covering the US, UK and Europe. If these first two singles are anything to go by, then these shows, and this album, are not to be missed.
