Enter Shikari are well known for their socially and politically conscious lyrics, and their energetic live show which has seen them play a diverse range of festivals from Nass to Download. Since forming in 2003, they’ve been breaking the musical rulebook incorporating an incredible range of influences that has won them many fans over the years. Earlier this month, they released a new song, ‘Hoodwinker’ without warning to the public. ‘Hoodwinker’, according to frontman Rou Reynolds, is about “calling out God as an imposter. We have evidence of forged paper documents. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news.”
‘Hoodwinker’ is every bit as angry as this description suggests, with a heavy hardcore-influenced breakdown, and Bring Me the Horizon-inspired harmonies. The crashing drums add to the full blown assault, while lyrically it is a direct attack on politicians who haven’t paid their taxes, and delivered with refreshing honest rage.
Although this might not be on an upcoming album, it shows Enter Shikari are bringing out new ideas, resulting in a solid track to add to their diverse collection.
