Track Review: Good For You // We Are The Ocean

British rockers We Are the Ocean are said to be influenced by the likes of Rise Against The Machine and various other bands who’ve acquired sounds of the post-hardcore scene, and have also managed to bag a Kerrang Award back in 2008 for ‘Best British Newcomer’. With that said, a lot has been anticipated from them, an one track in particular emerged from their scene.

‘Good For You’ – taken from their album Ark was a pretty hard-hitting and intense track. Throughout the majority of the song, the ensemble from the band seems to take a much more laid-back approach in terms of the synths and beats apparent with the ever occasional high note change from frontman/lead vocalist Liam Cromby. “Come upon a revelation  / To solve of all my frustration”  is a great line that can be taken from this track, summing up its story of a man’s struggle to, with limited cliché, win over a girl.

Towards the end of the piece things take a sudden turn of exhilaration and discomposure.  An contrast to the track’s previous smooth running and somewhat cool and collected air, it acts as an illustration of the anxious struggle of girl-chasing. Whether or not this changing of tones within the track does in fact act within harmony is another question, but what is certain is that ‘Good For You’ is certainly a track that is highly intense and leaves you with a feeling of enticement.

Be sure to check out the rest of We Are The Ocean’s tracks on their album Ark and catch them on their UK tour this November.
