Track Review: Get Over It // Lower Than Atlantis

In October 2014, Lower Than Atlantis released their eponymous fourth studio album, which saw the band consciously enter the world of mainstream rock. It was the band’s highest charting album in the UK and a critical success, released by Sony Music Entertainment who signed the alternative 4-piece at the end of last year. The album was noted for being covered in a ‘pop gloss’ and being ‘radio friendly’, having a sound significantly different to the band’s previous releases.

Fast forward a year and the Watford-based band are back, returning with the unveiling of standalone single ‘Get Over It’. The single echoes the ‘commercial’ rock sound that the band incorporated into their previous album, yet still remains true to their signature style thanks to raw vocals from frontman Mike Duce.

Despite Duce telling Kerrang! Magazine back in the summer that he needed to ‘stop acting like a f-ing child’ when it came to songwriting, ‘Get Over It’ captures teenage angst at its best. Resentful and hatred-filled lyrics such as “you always want whatever you can’t have / but this time / you can’t have me” fit the track’s aggressive pop-rock melody like a glove, making ‘Get Over It’ one of the years most catchy alternative anthems.

Layered with heavy drums, sublime riffs and a pop-structured chorus, the next era of Lower Than Atlantis is set to be a promising one. We can’t wait to see what they follow this killer single up with next.

‘Get Over It’ can be purchased here and tickets for Lower Than Atlantis’ upcoming tour with Moose Blood and As It Is here.
