Track Review: Four Letter Word // The Ordinary Boys

Let’s all take a moment to jump back to circa 2006. Samuel Preston is stealing all our young hearts on Big Brother, “Boys Will Be Boys” is blasting from the radio and, essentially, we’re all a little bit head-over-heels in love with The Ordinary Boys. Ever since Preston’s infamous, still-hilarious storming off of Never Mind the Buzzcocks in 2007 and the band’s split in 2008, we largely haven’t seen hide nor hair of any our favourite ska-inspired foursome. But now, after a quiet and subtle reunion in 2013, the boys are back with ‘Four Letter Word’, a track that introduces a heavier, but still easily likeable sound.

With Preston’s instantly recognisable vocals anchoring together effortlessly rocky electric guitars and weighty drum beats, a foot-tapping, stuck-in-your-head love song springs forwards. “Love is a four letter word”, and one that many of us will be using to describe this new offering from our old favourites. With an album and 25-date UK tour to come later in the year, ‘Four Letter Word’ will be getting many old fans very excited indeed.
