A retroist trio from Budapest, Bankrupt serve up a sound that fuses together a number of influences from the past 40 years of popular music. And in one of their latest tracks, ‘Disco Apocalypse’, it’s the turn of 90s big beat and 80s synth sounds to be paid homage to.
Bouncing along contently with a steady but inviting rhythm, the song has a slightly spaced-out aura that would ostensibly make it perfect for that long, relaxing road trip you’ve always dreamt of. The accompanying music video samples clips from ’70s trash flick ‘Roller Boogie’, and fits perfectly, despite the fact that this track has clear imprints of genres from later in the Twentieth century. It’s clear that these Hungarian guys know what they’re doing, and they’re not afraid to show it in the confident way this three-minute tune is layered and produced.
