Rising like the proverbial phoenix from the ashes of that evanescent ‘B-Town’ scene, Birmingham’s latest musical export has arrived in the shape of Pleasure House, a tight-knit quartet who have lunged their way onto the nation’s indie music radar in the last year or so.
To say what’s on offer in ‘Cyan’, the lead song from their brand new EP ‘Show Your Colours’, is quite evidently a product of a Brummie band – steeped in psychedelia, yet punchy and catchy when it matters – is certainly a compliment in itself, but is perhaps too glib an assessment.

For although there’s the jangly guitars and floaty hooks you’ll be familiar with, there’s a particular attention to detail, emphasised in a subtle chiming intro that fades into persisting harmony, that sets it apart from much of what came before.
On listening to ‘Cyan’, too, you’re also engaged with some quite potent lyrical content, with a overriding sense of disappointment-tinged resentment delivered through weary vocals.
So with an EP ready for you to listen to at your leisure, maybe it’s time you got into this Pleasure House – right before everyone else arrives.
