Let it be known, Carly Rae Jepsen knows how to make a comeback. Exactly a week ago, she dropped the sophomore single from the upcoming fifth studio album, The Loneliest Time

‘Beach House’ is a follow-up to the record’s lead single, ‘Western Wind’, both of which mark the dawn of a brand-new era; the forthcoming record is going to be the first full-length project in over three years, succeeding the Canadian singer-songwriter’s 2019 album, Dedicated.

Although ‘Beach House’ takes somewhat of a detour from the sound of previous offerings. This doesn’t really come as a shocking surprise – Jepsen has long mastered musical versatility and has never been the one to limit herself to a singular genre. Having said that, this single certainly contains key fragments of the thoroughly developed pop sound that Jepsen has become recognised for in the last decade.

In true Carly Rae Jepsen fashion, she showcases the striking contrast of romance and how much one’s perception of it changes with time. ‘Beach House’ blends upbeat melodies with a regretful and rather dark take on lyricism, which is something that not many can successfully pull off.

As noted by Jepsen herself, she’s “quite fascinated by loneliness” – hence the album title – and this track further confirms that her audience can expect the unexpected with this new album. And, knowing Jepsen’s musical capabilities, it’s going to be an unforgettable ride.

‘Beach House’ is out now. Carly Rae Jepsen’s fifth studio album, The Loneliest Time, comes out on October 21st this year. You can pre-save it here.
