Bristol four-piece, The Jacques, are a guitar-driven band with a lot of spirit. Their track ‘The Artful Dodger’ is a perfect example of this, and set to feature on their upcoming EP of the same title. ‘The Artful Dodger’ starts with a calm bass line accompanied by a few cymbal sounds before being joined by some powerful guitar chords. A higher guitar line is also heard which returns in different parts of the song. In the first verse this guitar drops out just leaving the bass and guitar – this change in dynamics is particularly engaging as some songs just stay the same throughout but this change makes it quite exciting.

There are quite a few elements in this song which give it a punk vibe; for example, other members of the band shouting one of the lyrics over and over again, and also just the guitars in general. This song features many guitar-driven breaks which fit in with the song well, and I can imagine sounding even better live.
If you like the sound of The Jacques you can follow them on Soundcloud, and get their new EP, ‘Artful Dodger’ which is available on the 29th of June.
