Track Review: Acting My Age // The Academic

The Academic have been spreading Indie vibes across the world, from the Irish countryside to international arenas, and now the 4-piece is back with their most exciting project yet. After positive acclaim from their most recent endeavour, the 2018 hit album Tales From The Backseat, their new release has a tough act to follow…

However, I can confirm that Acting My Age is set to be another success. The titular track is testament to the fun-loving vibes you can expect in their EP.

We’re introduced to a rather static and punchy melody, creating a sturdy backbone for the hit. Roaring vocals and emphatic guitar crescendo into a vibrant chorus, combining simple, yet elegant, chords with a rather raw and powerful message.

Speaking on the inspirations behind the tune, Craig Fitzgerald, frontman/main songwriter said: “It’s so easy to be harsh on yourself, but this [song] is [about] asking for forgiveness.”

The Academic pride themselves on spreading an uplifting message in their music, and this track is no exception. They haven’t shied away from the elements of disco-pop which have slowly been associated with them, with tunes guaranteed to get audiences moving. From your bedroom, to the venue, you’re gonna struggle to stay still while listening to this track.

With the full EP available on all popular streaming services on 10th July, it’s set to be full of bangers to define this rather unique summer.
