This year’s Glastonbury Festival was one of the most glorious – and controversial – that we’ve seen in a long while. Stage invasions, secret sets, senile Sunday night headliners… what else could you possibly need? And, across over 20 stages, Worthy Farm became the setting for innumerable moments of sheer musical elation. Whether it was The Proclaimers leading the Acoustic Stage into helpless singalong, Billy Bragg’s presentation of musical activism in the Left Field tent, or John Cooper Clarke’s timeless wit leaving the Cabaret tent in fits of laughter, there was little left to be catered for. But here, condensed to a mere ten, are the truly defining moments of Glastonbury 2015.
10. The Libertines – Pyramid Stage, Friday
The anticipation amongst the crowd was thick and heavy. On Friday evening, the question on everyone’s lips was “who is about to walk onstage to fill Florence’s original slot?” (Unless, of course, you had access to Twitter, in which case you’d probably known for a good few hours). In what will undoubtedly go down in history as one of the greatest secret sets in Glastonbury’s lifetime, the recently reformed Libs stormed their way through a triumphant set, ending with the classic ‘Don’t Look Back Into The Sun’ just as the sun fittingly set over the first night at Glasto. There are worse ways to kick off the weekend.
