9. Glitters Like Gold // In the Belly of the Brazen Bull
‘Glitters Like Gold’ is slacker-rock at its finest – yes, it is, MacDeMarco – and pays sonic homage to the likes of Pavement and The Strokes. One of the more melodic and poppier out of the Cribs back catalogue, it has highly singable lyrics and a chorus that shimmers above short, succinct riffs: “Vanity dance around me / Whatever you think about me / I’m the whale beneath the ship…” The album’s first track and opener, the musical strength of ‘Glitters Like Gold’ foreshadows the brilliance of their fourth record.
