Boys on the Radio
‘Boys on the Radio’ captures some of bassist, Mellissa Auf De Maur’s sweetest harmonies from her Hole career, which lend themselves to create an overall atmosphere of blithe longing on the single. Whilst, melodic and generally upbeat, the track covers some pretty dark areas particularly when considering that it features on the Celebrity Skin album conceived following the death of Love’s husband, Kurt Cobain.
In many ways, ‘Boys on the Radio’ serves to commemorate Kurt and all the other lost boys of the music scene who are “beautiful and dying”. Hole succeeds in creating a warning to those who find themselves being coveted, for their suffering in a slow death, “When the water is too deep / You can close your eyes and really sleep tonight” is delivered in bitterly sweet tone.
album or in a playlist…in essence the most eminently listenable song of 2016 – My wife now hates it.
