Intervention // Neon Bible (2007)
Recorded in a church, akin to the album title Neon Bible, ‘Intervention’ opens with a cascading church organ that maintains its presence throughout the song.
Similar to the dystopian themes of other songs in the album, ‘Intervention’ screams an anti-war, anti-religion chorus. As a graduate of religious studies, lead singer Win Butler cries “Been working for the church while my family dies/your little baby sister’s gonna lose her mind”, seemingly against the hard-core religious circles of North America. Continuing to the end of the song “singing hallelujah with the fear in your heart”continues the anti-religious theme.
