The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon has officially confirmed its release date on AMC and AMC+. September will mark the spin-off show’s debut on the small screen, amid fan excitement for the return of Daryl.
Norman Reedus will reprise his role as the titular character Daryl Dixon, in a continuation of the popular post-apocalyptic horror series, The Walking Dead. Andrew Lincoln (Rick) and Danai Gurira (Michonne) are also returning to AMC for the series.
After an 11 season run from 2011-2022, the end of The Walking Dead certainly left a hole in viewers’ hearts. Whilst all good things may come to an end, AMC had other things on their mind. After all, three new series have been in the works since the original series came to a close: The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, The Walking Dead: Dead City, and an unnamed show about Rick and Michonne.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon will premiere on September 10 2023 at 9pm (EST). After previous uncertainty regarding the release date, a 2023 release looked completely off the cards. The production narrowly missed the WGA (Writers Guild of America) strikes, enabling the show to secure a 2023 release date. However, due to the recent SAG-AFTRA strikes, the show cannot be promoted, as well as many others affected (including the show focusing on Rick and Michonne).
Though Daryl did not feature in the original The Walking Dead comic book series written by Robert Kirkman, his character was purposefully created for the show, and made better for it with Norman Reedus truly bringing Daryl to life. Unlike The Walking Dead: Dead City, where we saw Maggie (Lauren Cohen) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) in New York City, this time we are set to see Daryl in the city of Paris, France. According to Variety, we’ll see the zombie-apocalypse survivor as he “struggles to piece together how he got there and why […] though, the connections he forms along the way complicate his ultimate plan.”
Sadly, Melissa McBride’s Carol Peletier will not be returning for the spin-off. Although, this has not stopped fans from speculating McBride’s return despite confirmation from AMC. McBride’s absence is stated as a result of the show’s filming location in Europe, which was “logistically untenable” for her, according to a statement given by AMC to TVLine.
A show just about Daryl? Count us in.
