7. ‘Suck It and See’ // Suck It and See

The title track from the Arctic Monkeys’ fourth and weakest album Suck It and See, the song signifies a newfound maturity brought by the desert-rock sound of the album.

The song is full of brilliant metaphors that remind you of your beloved such as, “you’re rarer than a can of dandelion and burdock, and those other girls are just postmix lemonade”.

The lyrics highlight Turner’s ability to play with your emotions but in this case, he’s sending you to your happy place. The song is dreamy and whenever I listen to it, I imagine myself at the beach with a can of dandelion and burdock in my hands, free from my worries.

The early stages of love are described as Turner admits he is now vulnerable, but he doesn’t care: “That’s not a skirt girl that’s a sawn-off shotgun / and I can only hope, you’ve got it aimed at me.”
