Chichester Festival Theatre have announced they are postponing the release of their latest production The Flock.

In a statement, directors Kathy Bourne and Daniel Evans expressed a desire to explore the themes of the play further.

“The Flock is an important new work, which addresses themes of inclusion and difference in a thought-provoking way,” the statement published on Chichester Festival Theatre’s website said. “It makes a valuable contribution to the discussion of the complex issues that it explores, and it has a particular resonance for our times.

“The work has evolved in rehearsal, provoking new ideas and considerations inspired by contributions from the cast and the creative team.

“In order to serve the production properly, we want more time for exploration and development before we share the production with our audiences.”

Created by Zoe Cooper, The Flock tells the tale of a church producing a play based on Noah’s Ark. Several of the parishioners have competing ideas on what the play should accomplish for the clergy. It focuses specifically on the church’s vicar Roy and his efforts to keep the clergy together.

The newly rescheduled dates are to be announced in the near future. Additionally, the company will contact current ticket holders with new information regarding the play.

Meanwhile, Chichester Festival Theatre will proceed with its theatrical rendition of The Lion Inside. Based on the award-winning book, it follows the story of a mouse who wishes he could roar like a lion. The play will take place on 9 August.
