The musical adaptation of The Book Thief, coming to Octagon Theatre Bolton this autumn, has announced its creative team.
Script writers include award-winning author Jodi Picoult (My Sister’s Keeper) and Timothy Allen McDonald (adaptor of Willy Wonka and James and the Giant Peach).
It will be directed by the Octagon’s artistic director Lotte Wakeham, and choreographed by Tom Jackson Greaves (Amelie, Criterion Theatre, and Rent, Hope Mill Theatre).
The wider production team will include associate director Georgia Wang Murphy, associate musical director George Strickland and casting director Jacob Sparrow. Musical direction and orchestrations will be headed by Matthew Malone, with design by Good Teeth.
Lighting design will be headed by Nic Farman, puppet design by Samuel Wilde and sound design by Andy Graham.
Picoult said: “The Book Thief, as a novel, is a blockbuster that has sold over 20 million copies and deeply moved readers all over the world. Having the change to bring it to life three-dimensionally in a world premiere musical at the Octagon is a dream for us!”
“We hope that Liesel’s journey will inspire audiences to take a stand in the face of adversity, and to be agents of change in an increasingly divided world.”
Wakeham added: “I am absolutely thrilled to be opening our new season with this world premiere brand new musical adaptation of one of my all-time-favourite books.”
The Book Thief will run from 17 September to 15 October at Bolton Octagon Theatre. Tickets can be purchased on Octagon Bolton’s website from £15 each.
