I Let It In and It Took Everything // Loathe – Robert Percy
Released: 7 February 2020
I Let It In and It Took Everything is an album that’s blown absolutely everybody away this year and it’s not hard to see why when you listen to it. It’s a record that covers a huge spectrum of emotions and soundscapes. There’s everything from the heaviest of breakdowns to huge, emotional choruses to film score ambience and even a little bit of indie rock vibes thrown in as well! It’s the closest I’ve ever heard to a full spectrum of human emotion packaged into a single album. It’s also not got a totally polished, pristine production.
The album has a rough around the edges, overly-saturated vintage feel in many places that really sets it apart from other releases you’ll hear from this year. It’s not pretentiously analogue like something Steve Albini would throw at you, but the production has enough character to have a unique identity that makes the album just that little bit more special.
There’s a reason why this band and this album has gained huge praise from big music industry figures like Chino Moreno of Deftones and Taylor York of Paramore. Whilst it may seem like almost an indigestible album at first, it really pays off when you go through the entire stylistic gamut that I Let It In and It Took Everything throws at you. It’ll definitely be remembered as a classic in ten to twenty years time.
