A captivating teaser trailer for season three of The Morning Show was dropped on 27 July by Apple TV+, giving viewers a glimpse into what’s in store for their favourite newsroom drama.
From its inception, the hit newsroom drama has been lauded for its topical and compelling storytelling. Season one delved into the MeToo movement, portraying the repercussions of sexual misconduct within the media industry when Steve Carell’s character, Mitch Kessler, is fired from The Morning Show due to allegations of impropriety. Season two further explored these themes while also examining the impact of the COVID pandemic on the United States. Season three will likely continue addressing the pandemic and other current issues, notably focusing on the ever-growing influence of technology in the media sector.
The trailer opens with a poignant line from Reese Witherspoon’s character, Bradley Jackson, saying “We were supposed to change things, weren’t we?”. This statement appears to allude to the prevailing sexual misconduct behind the scenes of The Morning Show. Jennifer Aniston’s Alex Levy also reflects on the culture of the newsroom, declaring, “I need to have a say in the future of this place.” Billy Crudup’s Cory Ellison offers a different perspective, stating, “I want to win”, hinting at potential power struggles within the UBA network.
One of the most exciting additions to season three is the introduction of media mogul Paul Marks (Jon Hamm). Marks offers a lifeline for UBA amidst the unending controversies that have plagued the network. As the trailer unfolds, it promises an even more explosive season, with Alex threatening to expose the secrets of TMS, and Cory expressing a desire to “burn it all down.”
The Emmy, SAG and Critics Choice Award-winning drama stars Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston as joint leads, with Billy Crudup as the main supporting actor. Alongside new addition Jon Hamm, season three also sees Mark Duplass’s ‘Chip’ Black returning, as well as UBA news anchor Laura Peterson (Julianna Margulies), TMS producer Mia Jordan (Karen Pittman) and weatherman Yanko Flores (Nestor Carbonell).
Season three of The Morning Show returns on Apple TV+ on 13 September with its first two episodes.
