Casting details for the UK tour of Sunnymead Court have been announced.
Playwright Gemma Lawrence and Sasha Frost will star in the leading roles of Marie and Stella respectively. Lawrence has previously performed in As You Like It, Not Talking, and Much Ado About Nothing, and Frost has appeared in Our Country’s Good and The Lightning Child.
This queer romance about connection and isolation will be directed by James Hillier and produced by Jack Holden. There will be lighting and video by Will Monks, sound by Max Pappenheim and movement by Chi San Howard. The team also includes assistant director Ewa Dina, stage manager Anna Townley and casting director Annie Rowe.
This play dramatizes the desolation of lockdown by telling the story of a long distance relationship, conducted from two balconies.
Lawrence commented on how her play highlights the unique ways connections are made during hardships: “Inspired by the swell of community spirit in the first UK lockdown, Sunnymead Court is a celebration of the small, seemingly insignificant moments of human connection that might, in another time, have passed us by.”
“It speaks to the isolation of lockdown while also offering audiences some much-needed hope and humour,” she continued.
The critically acclaimed, four time Offie-nominated play will debut at London’s Arcola Theatre before touring to Lancaster, Mold and Bath. The tour will last from Monday 5 July until Saturday 10 July 2021.
Tickets for the production can be purchased online.
