One thing that unites the majority of North of England is the deep-set distrust in the Royal Family. Manchester band The Stone Roses made no secret of their hatred for Buckingham Palace and also Westminster, with lyrics like “Every Member of Parliament trips on glue” and “Bad money dies, I love the scene” laced throughout their era-defining debut album.

Although ‘Elizabeth My Dear’ lasts a grand total of 59 seconds, it is quite possibly the stand-out song on the album. Sonically different from the other songs, this track is haunting, led by a single guitar piece, with the clear message that Queen Elizabeth II must abdicate. Quickly. This song is the working class threatening the elite in the most beautifully-sounding way possible.
