Sonic X Shadow Generations has now surpassed worldwide sales of 2 million.
SEGA confirmed the milestone as a part of its latest quarterly earnings report. The game had previously sped past 1 million copies on the first day of launch, in October of last year.
Sonic X Shadow Generations was released to strong reviews with many critics praising the game. It currently sits at an ‘Generally Favourable’ 80% critic on Metacritic and a user score of 9.0 which categorises it as receiving ‘Universal Acclaim’.
Sonic X Shadow Generations is the enhanced remaster of 2011’s Sonic Generations. Sonic Generations was released for Xbox 360 and PS3 back in 2011 to celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Sonic the Hedgehog series. Sonic X Shadow Generations brings that original game remastered to new platforms and combined with a new game entitled Shadow Generations, where players can play as Shadow the Hedgehog.
This news comes as the Sonic IP is more powerful than ever. Sonic the Hedgehog 3, the latest instalment in the blockbuster film franchise, has already earned around $471.9 million worldwide against an estimated production budget of $122 million. The film also introduced moviegoers to Shadow the Hedgehog, voiced by Hollywood star Keanu Reeves.
Sonic X Shadow Generations is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S.
