Mikky Ekko’s debut album Time isn’t due for release until the first week of September, which is quite a while away. However, since the album has been released in the US since the beginning of 2015, a handful of tracks are up on his YouTube page, including ‘Smile’; this is a feel good summer song which recently was the accompanying soundtrack to the trailer for the film adaptation of John Green’s novel Paper Towns. Most recently the track ‘Pressure Pills’ was uploaded to his YouTube channel, and this track is definitely one of the stand-outs from his debut offering.

The track alone is accompanied with an unsettling piano with really sets the tone for this song; it’s very dark and menacing. The intro alone “Pressure pills, just drink, wash it down, don’t panic” is very incongruous and discordant which really fits the theme of the song. There are also moments of vocal chopping and manipulation, which is very visceral.

The track is brilliant which is why we’ve made it our song of the week – be sure to keep an eye out for Mikky Ekko’s debut album, and if you want more after hearing this then check out the current singles.
