Veludo Planes have soared back onto the indie/alternative radar with their latest release, ‘Wicker Man’.
This quartet from Portsmouth have already invaded our playlists with their debut release back in March, entitled ‘Snows of Kilimanjaro’. The boys showcase an aptness for blasting out addictive choruses over dynamic, melodic verses. After spending the year organising, running and staging Indie Club nights in their hometown, the boys have an action packed year ahead; with plans for their first UK tour in November and future dates at Forgotten Fields and Victorious Festival.
‘Wicker Man’ brilliantly demonstrates the talent of each member respectively. Mike Smith’s powerful vocals perfectly complement the metallic riffs spindled out by Sam Wardle (lead guitar), while the rhythm section, comprised of Chris Smith (bass/vocals) and Ollie Shaw (drums), fuse their parts together almost effortlessly. The verses contain that familiar lyrical finesse found in the previous single: the subject matter is insightful, with an elevating instrumental that keeps it spirited and upbeat, making it a definite indie anthem for the summer festivals. The chorus bursts in from a surging set-up, laden with urgent vocals and hooking riffs as we give into the irresistibility of such a memorable, vibrant chorus and find ourselves singing along.

The climactic bridge is a glimmering moment in the song, shedding light on the long, exciting road that Veludo Planes have ahead of them. Mike cries, “It feels like a real person / But it’s not” as each infectious cymbal smash crescendos to an end. The single will be available to download digitally on 10th August. As they themselves said on their Facebook page, “listen to it, learn it, share it, and love it”, ready for it’s forthcoming live performances.
