Single Review: Waiting On The Sun // The Jackobins

Opening with a neat hook which wouldn’t be out of place on a Blur record, The Jackobins’ latest offering ‘Waiting On The Sun’ has a sense of urgency that makes it impossible not to groove along to. The track is tightly wound throughout, but the chorus has a particular impact on the listener – it’s one that is sure to be chanted back to the Liverpool lads at their live shows: “Ohhh here we go / waiting on the sun / waiting on the sun”.

Dominic Bassnett’s distinctive and confident vocal – a beacon of uniqueness in a world of sameish indie frontmen – is unquestionably the most prominent feature of the song. However, Veso Mihaylov’s impelling guitar melody is perfectly matched by the minimalistic but nonetheless effective percussion from Marc Terry, creating the perfect backdrop to this infectious little number.

‘Waiting On The Sun’ is set for release on the 30th June, but you can preorder the track here, and catch The Jackobins on their Waiting On The Sun tour at the dates below.
