Single Review: Mumford & Sons // Ditmas

Mumford & Sons have swapped the banjo in favour of electric guitars in their newest single ‘Ditmas’ from their most recent album Wilder Minds. One of the more upbeat songs in the album, ‘Ditmas’ still has the signature style that’s typical of Mumford & Sons. Racking up over one million views on YouTube within the three weeks it’s been published online, the official video alternates between showing the band playing in the studio and a native man taming a wild horse.

The chorus is especially upbeat, using a strong drum beat and the electric guitars playing catchy harmonies whilst Mumford sings. Although it’s a song about a breakup, it’s doesn’t take a self pitying route – “Don’t tell me that I’ve changed because that’s not the truth” and instead blames the partner for the relationship ending.

Mumford & Sons will be playing three shows in Australia this Autumn after appearing at the Reading and Leeds Festivals in the UK this year.
