Everyone’s favourite supergroup is back. No, not The Last Shadow Puppets *fangirls sit down in disappointment*.

I’m of course talking about Alison Mosshart fronted giant, The Dead Weather. They’re back with new single ‘I Feel Love (Every Millon Miles)’, which comes with a stormy music video featuring Alison battling the elements like only she can.

Ever since their debut album Horehound, the quartet have created quite a buzz with new fans coming from all corners of the project. In one half of The Kills, Alison Mosshart (lead vocals and rhythm guitar) and multi-instrumentalist (drummer/guitar/vocals in Dead Weather) Jack White – of both The White Stripes and Raconteurs fame – the band have a powerful duo. Add to that Dean Fertita of Queens Of The Stone Age on lead guitar/keyboards and White’s Raconteurs bassist Jack Lawrence and you have quite the star-studded line-up. The best thing you can say about The Dead Weather throughout their formation is that although their sound takes influences from all the separate associated projects, they’re their own animal and quite a ferocious beast at that.

Onto the new track then.  The first thing of note is how killer Alison’s vocal work is, once again. Considering the fact both  The Dead Weather and The Kills have been on hiatus for a significant period, her voice hasn’t waned even slightly.  She’s still the attractive and captivating centre-piece that the band needs, with White in the background on drum duty once more. Then there’s the continuously gritty and dark guitar lines, a stalwart in any Dead Weather record and once again at the forefront of their sound. White also continues to excel with energetic drumming and vocal diversity, inter-changing with Mosshart on occasion. There’s however notably less White vocals than previous records on which he and Mosshart co-vocaled tracks such as ‘Treat Me Like Your Mother’ and ‘So Far From Your Weapon’.

Five tracks have now been unveiled from the new record Dodge & Burn, with ‘I Feel Love’ joining ‘Buzzkill(er)’  and the almost Lazaretto inspired ‘Rough Detective’ as the stand-outs up to now. Although we don’t yet know how the seven ‘new’ tracks will go down, the record  it must be said is shaping up to be a cracker once again.

Dodge & Burn, the 3rd studio LP by The Dead Weather is out September 25th on Third Man Records.
