The letter ‘Ø’ is used in several Scandinavian languages and also finds its way into London trio GØSPEL’s icy sound. The band – comprising Beth Anderton-Allen, Will Pennell and Chris Willsher – plays self-dubbed “alternative indie electro” and recently celebrated the launch of their latest single ‘Ain’t Gonna Let You In’, a Hannah Reid of London Grammar fronting Chvrches-type affair with a trip-hop spacey style, dark pop sensibilities and a surprisingly polished sound for a band which has only been together since last year.

The echoic bass of ‘Ain’t Gonna Let You In’ descends into an almost Eastern dance beat punctuated with Anderton-Allen’s lingering vocals which are vaguely reminiscent of Ellie Goulding or Florence Welch; her falsetto could fill arenas but would surely sound as – if not more – enchanting in an intimate venue. You can hear undertones of 80s synth-fuelled balladry in GØSPEL’s music, yet with an unmistakable modern sheen: think Disintegration meets Pure Heroine and xx in a striking fashion that is as dramatic as it is stripped back.
