Katie Arnstein’s acclaimed show Sexy Lamp is making its digital premiere with Wolverhampton’s Arena Theatre on 23 April.

The comedy show, which has been performed onstage and at fringe festivals for several years, has been adapted for the digital stage and will be streamed live on its debut night. It will then be available to watch on demand from 1 to 5 May.

The show is based on Kelly-Sue DeConnick’s ‘Sexy Lamp’ test, which sees whether or not a female character can be replaced with a sexy lamp without affecting the plot. It is a device used to measure the agency and invisibility of women on stage and on screen.

Arnstein commented that she is “over the moon to bring Sexy Lamp to the Wolverhampton Arena Theatre,” adding “I’m an artist originally from the West Midlands and so I feel really lucky, after such a difficult year, to be able to return there and perform live to audiences all over the country.

Sexy Lamp is a comedy with original songs about my journey to becoming an actor and I hope people feel it provides a tonic to these extremely challenging times, with plenty of laughter and light”.

The theatre will also provide BSL interpretation for the live performance, while the catch up service will also include audio description and captioning.

Tickets for the show are available here.
