A couple of weeks ago, Liverpool’s metropolitan festival Sound City announced the first set of performers for 2017. Now they have added more names to their already impressive line-up, which marks the 10th birthday of the festival. Sound City will be held between the 25th and 28th of May, with the latest announcements enhancing the line-up on the weekend of the event.
On Saturday, Declan McKenna and VANT will also be taking to the stage, alongside the previously announced Metronomy, Slaves, and The Japanese House. VANT have just released debut album Dumb Blood to positive reviews from critics everywhere; they are definitely one to watch with the strong political undertones to their songs being applauded. Declan McKenna has not even released his debut album yet and he is already a name on Radio 1’s Brit List – the 18-year-old singer-songwriter has received millions of Spotify plays with his socially and politically charged songs including ‘Brazil’ and ‘Isombard’.
The Cribs will be a special guest for Sound City on the final day of the festival – the family orientated cult indie band have been going for 15 years strong, and influential The Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr was once counted as a member. Their set will not want to be missed, with an exclusive performance of their acclaimed album Men’s Needs, Women’s Needs, Whatever! Also playing alongside The Cribs, The Kooks, Milburn, and the Sherlocks on Sunday are Sound of 2017 nominated rockers The Amazons.
A number of smaller performers, including the likes of Swiimers, Fur, and Violet Youth have also been announced to play the Emerging Talent Showcase, which offers a platform for newer and breaking bands and singers to have their first big break.
Tickets are still available to all days of the festival, except for John Cale’s tribute anniversary performance of the Velvet Underground’s debut album on Friday 26th May.
