The Royal Court has been forced to move their production of The Song Project after flooding damaged the auditorium.

The production was originally meant to run in the larger venue from 17 to 28 August. It is now taking place on the same dates in the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs, the west London venue’s smaller space.

As the auditorium’s capacity is smaller, current ticket holders had their tickets returned, and were given priority access to rebooking.

In a statement, a venue spokesperson said: “Due to damage caused by recent flooding in the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs’ auditorium, The Song Project…will be moved to our other theatre space in the building.

“Performances will remain at the same time of 8pm,” the spokesperson continued. “Plans are already underway to bring The Song Project to the Jerwood Theatre Downstairs in 2022.”

The Song Project, presented by Dutch artist Wende, is a collection of musical performances exploring various topics. Playwrights include E.V. Crowe, Sabrina Mahfouz, Somalia, Nonyé Seaton, Stef Smith, and Debris Stevenson.

“The Song Project began as a bold experiment bringing together a group of artists and playwrights to co-create in a new way, starting with the idea that some things can only be sung,” the production’s advertisement page states.

“The work explores the hopes and anxieties we all face, diving into the messiness of birth, death, rage, grace, friendship, motherhood, mothers, loss and ageing.”
