Rockstar Games has distributed a fresh update for the hit game Red Dead Redemption 2, a prequel to the 2010 phenomenon Red Dead Redemption. With it being the first meaningful update in 18 months, there was so much hype involved with this game that it’s understandable why fans are a little disappointed there is no fresh content.
Update 1.32 is now available to download for PC, PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game and whereas it includes ‘general fixes’ for Red Dead Online, there was anticipation that the update would include visual updates for players on newer software which so far- there has been no sign of.
For years, fans have been begging Rockstar Games to sort issues relating to the open world to allow it to run smoother on Sony’s current console, much like it does on Xbox Series X. There was hope that this update would come with new content for fans to enjoy or fix some of the visual issues related to the open world, but neither has happened to the dismay of the franchise’s fans.
Instead, the patch focuses on fixing bugs that have caused issues when playing on Red Dead Online, especially a glitch where players could get stuck inside stables, causing the player to have to shut down and reload the game losing previous progress. Whereas this is seen as a positive fix, there is criticism on Rockstar as to why it’s taken 18 months for them to under-deliver on an update that had such high expectations.
Other fixes on the update include stability issues and addresses problems with crashing.
The last update for this game that included fresh content was back in September 2022, a long time to wait in the gaming community. Many players are branding the fixes ‘disappointing’ compared to the much bigger updates other Rockstar games, such as Grand Theft Auto 5 Online receive.
Red Dead Redemption 2 has been a huge success for Rockstar. Despite the game taking less money than GTA 5, it is a game that is still being discovered years after release and attracts new fans every day. 61m copies so far have been sold, a huge number in the gaming community. Fans are now worried that Rockstar’s work on GTA 6, the next installment in the Grand Theft Auto franchise, will push Red Dead content to the back of the priority line. Another criticism and nail in the coffin for the game developer which has had an extra hard time pleasing fans this past year.
