The producers of the hit production Priscilla, Queen of the Desert have announced plans for its UK tour to restart in June.

Mark Goucher and Jason Donovan first staged the show in September 2019, but had to cancel performances when the UK-wide lockdown was announced last March..

The musical, based on the film of the same name, follows three friends who take a battered old bus to the Australian Outback to put on the show of a lifetime. The soundtrack features a number of disco classics such as ‘It’s Raining Men,’ ‘I Will Survive,’ and ‘Finally.’

Gavin Kalin and Matthew Gale complete the production team, with direction from Paul Kerryson, and choreography by Tom Jackson-Greaves.

The original film, starring Hugo Weaving, Guy Pearce, and Terence Stamp, proved to be a surprise hit upon its release, It is credited with helping to introduce positive representations of LGBT+ characters to mainstream audiences during the 1990s.

Priscilla will officially re-open at Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham on 23 June, before going on to over a dozen other venues across the UK. The team has also said they hope to return to the West End, but no date has yet been announced.

Producer Mark Goucher said “we will, of course, closely monitor all advice coming from the Government and if the start dates need to be delayed we have contingency plans in place to be able to move the starting venue for each show to one later in the tour schedule.”
