The Pleasance Theatre have officially announced their autumn season, which will feature nine productions from this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
This season’s shows cover a myriad of different genres, from witty Western parodies and romantic comedy to intimate one-woman shows blended with tales of generational trauma and oppression.
Block’d Off by Kieton Saunders-Browne will kick-start the season, running from 3 October to 7 October. Based on true stories, this one-woman show exposes the harsh realities of working-class London, following the stories of five people trapped in the vicious cycle of deprivation.
Running simultaneously will be Voloz Collective’s sell-out production of The Man Who Thought He Knew Too Much, and the BAFTA Rocliffe-winning comedy Bad Ass.
From 10 October to 15 October, Allison Mickelson will star alongside Anne Yeomans in Emyr Cooper’s intimate contemporary drama Flat Packed Furnished Flat. This will be followed by Sophie Bentinck’s playwriting debut Pauline, Scatterjam’s dark one-woman show Please, Feel Free to Share and Clay Party and Conflicted Theatre’s thrilling two-hander Fiji.
Part of the season will also be dedicated to showcasing the work of wrestler turned performance artist Heather Bandenburg in a three-day festival, WRESTIVAL. These pieces will combine live wrestling with cabaret, drag and satire, aiming to bring the underrepresented voices of wrestling to the spotlight.
The season will conclude with a slew of dramatic pieces—The Mother Sh*t (10 – 19 November), Batman (aka Naomi’s Death Show) (21 – 26 November) and Savage Heart (22 – 26 November), exploring themes of grief, love and resilience.
