After a highly successful Disney Investor Day, the animation studio Pixar has announced the addition of three new series to its repertoire.
The first of these shows is Dug Days, a spin-off series of Up following the eventful life of the energetic dog Dug and his daily experiences. The animated series will feature a new challenge every episode for Dug as he navigates the curiosities associated with life in suburbia, following his return from the jungle, with owner Carl Fredrickson. Some of these challenges have been hinted at by Pete Docter, the Chief Creative Officer, and are noted to include “puppies, fireworks and of course squirrels”. In addition, Bob Peterson will be reprising his voice role of Dug, as the dog vocalises his emotions and experiences for the viewers. Peterson is also directing and writing each episode. Dug Days will be available to watch in Autumn 2021.
The second upcoming series is another spin-off series, this time for the popular movie franchise of Cars. The show will feature movie protagonist Lightning McQueen and his best friend Mater as they venture away from their home town of Radiator Springs and travel cross-country. Their road trip is proclaimed to star old friends and new acquaintances so there will definitely be variation in storylines for each episode. Whilst the cast has not been predetermined yet, the series has been written by Steve Purcell and produced by Marc Sondheimer. The show will be making its debut in Autumn 2022 on Disney +.
The final series announced by Pixar is an original concept show Win or Lose. Win or Lose is pitched as a comedic representation of a middle school softball team a week before their championships. Each character will have a different perspective on situations like love and rivalry, alongside the competitive nature of softball. Pixar has never released a long-form animated show so it will be interesting to view the development of the storylines. The show will be released in 2023.
