Persona 3: Reload has become the fastest-selling game ever from Atlus Studios. The game, which is a remake of Persona 3, has surpassed one million copies sold in its first week of being released.
This is part of a strong start to the year from Atlus, with their parent company Sega achieving the same number of sales in a week with Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth which became the fastest-selling game in franchise history.
Persona 3 was originally released in 2006 for PlayStation 2. Persona 3: Reload recreates the original for new players, with new voice actors, updated graphics and lots of small, dignified changes which enhance the game throughout.
The plot follows our protagonist, who moves to his home city a decade after his parents were killed in a fatal car crash. Moving into a dorm, he discovers he can summon a persona- a physical manifestation of his inner spirit. This calls him to join a group of other Persona users at his school, called the Specialised Extracurricular Execution Squad (S.E.E.S).
Persona games have had re-releases in the past, with Persona 4: Golden and Persona 5: Royal, but these were not straight remakes just updated versions with added story elements a few years after the original release, taking the playing hours from 10 to 20. This is the first in the Persona franchise to have a complete remake, with it being halted a huge success by gamers and reviewers alike. It has been praised for its attention to detail, in game combat and visual changes.
Persona 3 came out on February 2nd on PC, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One, Series X and S. Whereas there are currently no plans to release the game on Nintendo Switch, it hasn’t been ruled out by the game’s director Takuya Yamaguchi.
