PDSW Joins With Dance Bodies To Host Showcase For Children

Pavilion Dance South West (PDSW) have announced they are joining forces with several dance academies to present ‘CHILDREN AND THEIR GROWN-UPS’ this autumn.

The developmental showcase will give families the opportunity to find work, arrange pitches, and network with fellow dancers. It will form this year’s PDSW summit—an annual event that looks at ways to improve the industry.

The programme includes five live shows, 40 discussion panel seminars, and 20 virtual sessions for shows aimed at 0-15-year-olds. PDSW will host the discussions on their site, making them accessible for anyone across the world to view.

The sessions will look at creating child-centred work, adapting to different formats, and working with digital broadcast software. 1-1 sessions with industry professionals will also be available to book.

“Children and young people have been particularly badly hit by the fallout of Covid,” the about section of the programme reads. “This showcase will open a window onto new dance work for children that is available for touring.

“It gives artists, companies, producers, and programmers a chance to hear about the co-creation of work with children and how it’s being adapted for different touring formats.”

PDSW have teamed up with multiple organisations across the country to stage the showcase, including DanceEast in Ipswich, South East Dance in Brighton, and The Work Room in Glasgow.

It builds on their work running the Surf The Wave programme, a UK-wide initiative that aimed to find new ways to showcase and tour work in order to make dance available to more people.

The showcase begins on 29 September and closes on 2 October. Further information and details on how to book tickets can be found on PDSW’s website.
